Confidence matters... It works!!!

Are YOU confident? What are your tactics for feeling more confident? If you’re not very confident, how has that affected your days?

Confidence is the key for Success... It plays an important role in journey of every individual on personal front as well as professional front...

You have to always remember that their is a slight difference between being a Confident and Over Confident...

For me, I found that one sure way to destroy confidence was to appear unsure. In my former assignment as tech instructor I have never used the words "I don't know" because that was a surefire way to lose my class confidence in me. If I didn't know an answer, I always used "that is an excellent question" and later researched it and got back to the student. This really works for me in my entire tenure...

I remember when i am doing my graduation one of my dear friend selected in an interview and believe me he did not know anything to the job for he has been interviewed but the way he handled himself was like a professional and he got selected for it. And when i asked him how he got the job without having much knowledge... he just answered one word...that is "CONFIDENCE." With confidence one can accomplish even the most difficult goals.

I think there are many keys to being confident some of them i am listing here you may agree or disagree with me and same would vary with person to person...

  • The first tip would would be walk the walk. By this, I mean both a literal and metaphorical walk.Always your head should be up, showing that you are alert; your actions show that you know what you are doing, and always make eye contact with everyone to show them that you were there.Always walk as if you have a job to do, be purposeful in your movements, look people in the eye no matter who they are. If you have a confident walk, people naturally assume that you know what you are doing and you will make a great first impression.
  • How we account for victories and failures (do you give yourself credit, or blame/credit the circumstances)
  • Trying a lot. If you try a lot, fail a lot, but win a lot, I think the confidence sticks. If you only try once or twice, and you fail either or both times, those failures loom a lot larger than if you try, say, 100 times and fail 75. You've still got 25 victories there, and that means a lot.
  • Go for the low hanging fruit...When building confidence, look for opportunities to succeed. In the planning process, set attainable short-term goals to help boost confidence. It is important to steer away from uncertainty.
  • Gain knowledge. One of the best ways to bolster confidence is to equip oneself with knowledge. The more knowledge acquired... the stronger the self-confidence. Learn more about the profession you have chosen, more about your company's products and services, more about the people that surround you, more about your customers, and more about people in general.

A small story on Self Confidence:

A business executive was deep in debt and could see no way out.

Creditors were closing in on him. Suppliers were demanding payment. He sat on the park bench, head in hands, wondering if anything could save his company from bankruptcy.

Suddenly an old man appeared before him. "I can see that something is troubling you," he said. After listening to the executive's woes, the old man said, "I believe I can help you."

He asked the man his name, wrote out a check, and pushed it into his hand saying, "Take this money. Meet me here exactly one year from today, and you can pay me back at that time."

Then he turned and disappeared as quickly as he had come.

The business executive saw in his hand a check for $500,000, signed by John D. Rockefeller, then one of the richest men in the world!

"I can erase my money worries in an instant!" he realized. But instead, the executive decided to put the uncashed check in his safe. Just knowing it was there might give him the strength to work out a way to save his business, he thought.

With renewed optimism, he negotiated better deals and extended terms of payment. He closed several big sales. Within a few months, he was out of debt and making money once again.

Exactly one year later, he returned to the park with the uncashed check. At the agreed-upon time, the old man appeared. But just as the executive was about to hand back the check and share his success story, a nurse came running up and grabbed the old man.

"I'm so glad I caught him!" she cried. "I hope he hasn't been bothering you. He's always escaping from the rest home and telling people he's John D. Rockefeller."

And she led the old man away by the arm.

The astonished executive just stood there, stunned.

All year long he'd been wheeling and dealing, buying and selling, convinced he had half a million dollars behind him.

Suddenly, he realized that it wasn't the money, real or imagined, that had turned his life around. It was his newfound self-confidence that gave him the power to achieve anything he went after.

Knowledge would be the first step for the Excellence but definitely not the last step.... "Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude.”

Everyone around us always talked about "Excellence"...

Excellence never come with Knowledge it is far more than that...

yes, Knowledge is important for achieving the "Excellence" but it is not the only quality you require to achieve "Excellence"... Many of us always afraid of failures and mistakes... But a person who commits mistakes and meet with a failures that person would be ahead of the person who doesn't meet with mistakes and failures in life... Because a person who meets with failures and have done mistakes who knows what not to do and how to come out from those situations...

No one in this world is expecting from you that you not commit any mistakes or you never meet with failures... It is important that you not repeat your mistakes because you are losing the respect if you made same mistakes more than one time...
The more mistakes you make, the more you know what not to do So here comes one more quality you need to posses except your knowledge i.e. For "Excellence" you need to learn from your mistakes... एक बार गलती होती है बार बार करने पर उसे गुनाह कहते है...

Some of the points extracted from the Harsha Bhogle's speech on "Excellence"

  • If you have ego and anger on your side, you don't need an opponent. I try not to have an ego. Subjugate the self - lose the EGO.
  • Everybody in the top 10% will have the same talent. So what's your USP? You work ethic and attitude counts for far far more than your talent.
  • Arrogance often comes in the way of excellence.
  • When we reach a certain level, we start surrounding ourselves with smaller people. Or - we start hating criticism. on the path to excellence, it is always very crucial to have people around you who can tell you whether you are doing right or wrong.
  • Everything I have done is because I have loved it.
  • Chase your performance goals - chase your professional goals - let the result take care of itself. Perfect the process of performance - don't allow the pressure of the result to choke your performance.
  • Focus on excellence in preparation and performance. Set yourself performance goals, not result goals.
  • When we lose - we seek excuses. People who are excellent never say - I was great BUT..That just means you are putting the blame on somebody else. This means, you are not great already.
  • Some people have always used their talent to succeed. So they don't know how to succeed in case you failed.
Being excellent is also about having the confidence to share knowledge - if you are not comfortable sharing knowledge, you are insecure. Excellence is not insecure.

Some of us never know how good we can be. People who have achieved excellence have always been ready to stretch their own limits. (When will you be ready to take chances? When you are ready to face the results - when you are sure of yourself.)

'Let me try and see what happens. What is the worst thing that will happen? You'll fail. Are you scared of failure? You will also know what you cannot do. All of us learn by trying.

Excellence is always in the present. Sometimes, we are too anxious about the future - sometimes we are too caught up in the past. You must make the most of what you have now. People for whom the past is more glorious than the present will never succeed! Excellence lives in the present.

A word which troubles every person on this planet... "Change"

Change is not a past nor a future... Change is present everyone who want to excel in life need to meet with Change sooner or later... A person who survive in Change is always a leader and front runner and can won any competition...

There are four phases of Change one can think of....
  • Denial...
  • Resistance...
  • Exploration...
  • Commitment...
Most of us always stuck in first two phases of changes... A person who sail through remaining phases is a fighter and need a big hand of applause...

History shows us that a person who survive in changes are the winners and real Heroes...

Hey Guys, Always remember when you meet with a change your inner values will be with you and you are the one who lives comfortably before meeting with the change...

Everyone loves to be in comfortability zone and no one wants to come out of it... Person who dare to himself/herself would be winner because they have an experience how to handle different situations...

Self belief is important than anything else...
